Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, Snapdragon 845, and Kirin 980 Specifications

2018 was an exciting year for smartphone enthusiasts. We saw many chips from Android smartphone manufactures like, Hi Silicon Kirin 980, Mediatek P70 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. The Qualocmm snapdragon will power the most for the 2019 flagship smartphone including Samsung galaxy s10, Oneplus 7 etc. Qualcomm was so positive about their new processor 855 in launch event but it will be interesting to see their new product side by side to other company’s products.

We would have tested the new Exynos 9820, but the Samsung Galaxy S10 isn’t available yet. We’ll have to wait until February for that.

  • Qualcomm claims a 45% improvement in CPU performance. Certainly, the jump to ARM Cortex-A76-based cores should yield a substantial performance bump. The 48% and 35% improvements in GeekBench single-core and multi-core scores respectively are impressive, and since most workloads benefit from improvements to single core performance, we’ll give Qualcomm the win here.
  • Just as Qualcomm claimed, the Adreno 640 GPU in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 offers about a 20% jump in performance over the Adreno 630 GPU in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and it just crushes the Kirin 980 in GPU.
  • We can clearly say that Snapdragon 855 is the best chipset available for Android devices. It was able to beat Hi Silicon Kirni 980 in both CPU and GPU test. It will be interesting to see real world performance of devices upcoming with SD 855 soon.
